The 1998-99 Treble Winning Season
Quite simply the greatest season in the history of Manchester United Football Club. The league title was won back from Arsenal with the sort of breathtaking attacking football with which United were once synonymous, the FA Cup was also won to complete a historic third double - with memorable victories against Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal along the way - and then four days later on his last appearence for the club Peter Schmeichel lifted the European Cup for Manchester United for the first time in 31 long years. Along the way we'd seen Murdoch and his cash-rich media empire defeated by fan power (and a bit of help from Stephen Byers!), United's two biggest ever signings positively flourish, Keane back from his career-threatening injury better than ever and Beckham respond magnificently to the taunts and bile of ABUs the length of the land. This my attempt to chart the progress of the best, and most successful, season ever for United.
